Writing Credit: Security and Linux

Write a 4000 word essay surveying security in Linux. The survey must be complete, from the earliest Linux releases through to the present. In addition to introductory material and a conclusion, the survey must cover:

• Measures that have been built into Linux in order to make it secure.
• Security breaches that have occurred, and how the Linux developers have responded.
• Current security developments and concerns.

Your essay must be word processed (or equivalent - hand written documents are for the computer illiterate). A first draft will be accepted at the lecture on 2nd October. A second draft will be accepted at the lecture on 4th November. The final submission must be submitted at the lecture on 4th December. (Remember that late submissions will generally not be accepted - see the policy in the administration document.)
