As more software companies and organizations enter the web application market, the number of web-based capabilities and services available to software developers are increasing rapidly on the Internet. This phenomena influences the way software is developed. Instead of building software from scratch, developers are encouraged to "assemble" new applications from openly available services provided by third parties. The Web-Scale Workflow and Analytics Group (Web-Swag) at University of Miami investigates new approaches that adapt to this environment. The group explores contemporary software engineering techniques and tools to navigate this emerging environment. Our investigations consist of software life cycles, service-based software discovery, configuration, composition, and quality of service in service-based software systems. Relevant research areas are internet computing, cloud computing, web services, workflow, and automated software engineering.
