Cognates for the Students

Requirements

• Complete at least one cognate in each of the 3 areas
  (unless exempt from general education, e.g., Foote fellows)
• Each major and minor taken by a student fulfils a cognate requirement
  • Specify which area is to be fulfilled
  • Areas for majors and minors
  • A major and two minors could fulfil the cognates requirement!
• Declare other cognates like majors and minors
  • Freshmen get/take form to Ashe 112
  • Others get/take form to Ashe 200
• There is no limit on the number of cognates a student may complete.
• Cognates will be listed on transcripts

Which Students?

• All freshmen
• Default for students coming from high school with 30+ credits
• Not for students transfering from another university with 30+ credits
