Progress and Graduation Checklist for MS Students
Each student is personally responsible for
meeting the progress and graduation requirements of the degree.

Graduation Checklist
Students must complete either the thesis option or the coursework option.
- Thesis option
- Coursework, one of:
- 9 credits from CSC6XX courses and 15 credits from other
approved courses.
- 6-8 credits from CSC6XX courses and 19-21 credits from
other approved courses.
- 3-5 credits from CSC6XX courses and 25-27 credits from
other approved courses.
At least 18 coursework credits must be earned in courses offered
by the Department of Computer Science.
- CSC710 - Master's Thesis (exactly 6 credits)
- Follow the
instructions provided by the Graduate School, noting the
requirements for
- Thesis formatting
- The online Defense Announcement Form
- Bringing the Thesis Signature Page and Certificate of
Defense Approval to your defence.
- Uploading the thesis to ETD
- At least 10 working days before the defence, give a copy of
your thesis to each committee member.
- You are responsible for delivering the following to the
Graduate School:
- Thesis (with signed Thesis Signature Page)
- Signed Certificate of Defence Approval
- CSC725 - Research in Residence (0 credits)
- If all of the above credit requirements have been completed,
and it is necessary to remain registered (e.g., to complete
the thesis and defence), register for CSC725.
- Coursework option:
- 36 credits of approved courses, including at least 18 credits
from CSC6XX courses.
